The
National Post in Canada interviews two developers who are using trial stays to help sell their properties:
As one customer said "We trusted our gut -- we got there and felt right at home, and it fit with what we were looking for," Ms. Oldfield says. "We just felt like we belonged right away."
"I think for the purchaser, it demystifies the experience for them. They obviously like the notion of the site," says Walter Thompson, president of The GenerX Corp., the developer (with The Rose Corp. ) behind Muskoka's Touchstone on Lake Muskoka site, a larger resort-style fractional development project. "It just takes that lingering doubt that might be there and does away with that so that they can move forward with more comfort."
Another developer is quoted as saying "50% of visitors who come to stay ending up buying."
The featured projects varied a little in how their programs worked - some were offered for free, others made a charge which was credited back if you buy.
